Country Boy Mine

July 14, 2016 By Callie Leave a Comment

Breckenridge,CO

One stop on our Colorado trip was to the Country Boy Mine in Breckenridge, CO.

The mine is located in literally a mine. The surrounding area driving up is full of old mining areas and gravel and is pretty cool to look at. The mine has a decorative mine building and a spiraling path up to the main mine area. Some people uhem loved it so much they didn’t want to leave at the end-not naming names-threenager.

The mine offers tours and lessons on how to pan for gold. This is an authentic Gold Mine that is out of commission but was very much in use back in the day. The mine is open free to visitors but the tour will cost you. It was well worth it though.

The area has a fun but super fast slide for kiddos and adults. An area filled with artifacts and wagons fun for taking pictures. The scenes are amazing as well.

The tour consists of roughly 45 minutes in a confined, dark, wet gold mine. They provide mandatory hard hats and raincoats and during the summer you will get wet due to melting glaciers. Pretty neat! (Selfies in the dark are hard!)

You need to wear outdoor shoes for this one because the area you walk in the mine is narrow and wet. You learn all about mining life. It was amazing. I was however ready to walk out once we were done so if you’re not into tight dark spaces you may want to sit this one out.

The end of the tour brought us to a building where we were taught how to pan for gold. You’re able to go out to a running stream and pan for gold yourself. I think we got a flake of fools gold.

So much fun and definitely something to add to your list while visiting Colorado! You will get dirty and you will need a coat for the mine-it’s a bit chilly, even in the summer!

Downtown Breckenridge

Breckenridge,CO

Fifty Nifty United States-our checklist goes on as we attempt to accomplish our family goal of all fifty states before Row goes to college.I’ve been watching those airfare deals and pinning on my Pinterest boards so that when a deal pops up we know where to go.

This summer we checked off Colorado. I posted a recap post previously but wanted to write posts about all the special events and places we went. Posts from fellow bloggers have been instrumental in helping me have fun things to choose from on each trip and I’m happy to spread that along.

We were fortunate enough that hubs best friends have a vacation home in Breckenridge,CO. We booked an amazing deal to Denver and then made the trip up, up, up to Breckenridge. We spent one day walking around and exploring the scenic downtown area in Breckenridge which is one of the many family fun things to do in the area during the summer months-make sure you have a light jacket though.

The downtown area is scenic and quaint and loaded up wit adorable and cutesy one of a kind stores. Parking is rough but there’s also a town square area where you can park and walk a tiny ways down to all the action.

Cute outdoor spaces to sit and play.Oh and very dog friendly.

Check out the cookie shop we stopped at. We got whoopie pies.

Tons of mom and pop restaurants that are excellent.

There’s a stream that runs adjacent to the downtown area and you can go and feed the fish so bring some quarters.

Downtown Breckenridge also runs family fun art exhibits in the center of Downtown every Friday night in the summer.

Oh and did I mention-walking just for the views was enough for me. Fun, free and gorgeous.

Rocky Mountain High

This past week we family vacayed in Colorado! We flew into Denver and then drove up-way up, I mean way up to Breckenridge to stay a Lon’s best friends vacation home! It was an amazing three story cabin in the woods.

We stayed four days with their family and explored the area. It took us along time to become aclimtized-actually I don’t think we did at all.

Thursday was spent meeting up with a friend from high school! We walked all around adorable downtown Breckenridge and had lunch and cookies.
