I moved back to Houston about 15 years ago. I was born here. And you can take the Texan out of Texas but little else changes. I finished middle school, went to high school and college in New England. I love New England. My life of being torn between two areas in the US began. No matter where I am I will always miss something about the other and mainly people. I always miss my people.
Before we had Row we had losses…many and just when I thought we were at the end of this journey Massachusetts saved us. Massachusetts has a state law mandating that any insurance company who covers pregnancy must cover infertility treatment. So I left, Lon stayed and our miracle rainbow baby was made in Massachusetts but born in Texas. I am forever grateful to Massachusetts and my friends who supported me there.
I did dream of queso a lot….and while Massachusetts helped make our baby pie Lon exclaimed she’s a Texan darn proud when she was born here.
Katy has become home and there are so many things to do in the quaint-ginormous town. We go into town often but love hanging at home. The great thing about Katy is it’s family feel. Which I will admit is not so fun when you’re single or infertile. There are so many wonderful neighborhoods with loads of amenities. Katy is currently the number 1 area to relocate to in the US-crazy right!
We have tons of pool, water parks, family events, lakes, walkways-you name it.
Have I mentioned one of Row’s obsessions-ducks? Well we have ducks. I forgot how fun it was to just go to the park, throw down a blanket and bring some stale bread to feed the ducks. It’s a great FREE way to spend and afternoon. Row loves it and it gives us an excuse to be outside, take a walk and have a picnic. There are ponds in almost every planned community in Katy with DUCKS!
Sometimes we get so caught up with giving our children everything we didn’t have we don’t give them what we did have-simple pleasures, unstructured play, technology downtime. So feed the ducks! Even if the sign says not to……
Do you have any fun things you do for free?
