Water Bead Sensory Play

September 22, 2014 By Callie Leave a Comment

What did you do this weekend? We played with water beads! But first….Halloween!!!!!

So if you don’t know yet you soon will understand my obsession with Halloween. I prefer the cute Halloween. I was so overwhelmed with happiness when we in fact became pregnant with Row. And I was scared. After four losses it’s hard not to worry. Once we were finally in the clear which for me felt like six months I began to realize that oh my goodness she would be a Halloween baby. It was like the icing on the cake. Last year her birthday was an orange and black theme. This time we’re doing bake sale but I’m determined to go ahead and have a separate baby Halloween party. Anyways all of our Fall stuff came down from the attic! Yes! I purged-because there were five boxes ya’ll. The outside is only fall decorated but inside it’s Halloween Mania-pictures as I get it sorted.

Also Fall brings community garage sales! I use to garage sale every weekend when I taught Kindergarten. It’s a great place to find things for projects! I happened to find a community one literally at 9 the night before and lovingly-with some bartering-my hubs agreed to take morning over and my mom and I went shopping. I came back with a practically new push car for Row for $20! We have had to push her in it nonstop since…every time she sees it she gets in and honks the horn. She’s even taking to waving as she circles the kitchen. Garage sale junkie!

We also went and saw the Maze Runner movie-which I wasn’t all about until ten minutes in! I’ve already bought the second book on kindle and have read seven chapters.

Row had a pretty stellar weekend. Aside from the car and various other garage sale finds-I swear garage sale days are like Christmas up in here! She got to play with her water beads. Water beads are originally meant to be put in potted plants. Once you add water to them they grow in size and secrete water over time. They grow each time you add water and are reusable. They’re also an amazing sensory activity. Mind you this activity must be supervised especially for those who still like to eat things. Honestly our golden retriever Hunter eats them.

Water beads come in a variety of colors and can be dyed. I bought mine at the dollar store in the floral section. You can also find them at any craft store-Michaels, JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby and online. If you want edible ones Japan has tapioca beads which are edible and have a similar texture. Water beads feel really cool and slippery and are so much fun to play with. They also bounce. Row adores them!

What’s Row wearing? Matilda Jane Crew Dress
