What I’m Reading…

January 26, 2016 By Callie Leave a Comment

I’m always on the lookout for a good read and I’m also nosy curious as to what others are reading too!

I usually have a long list in my kindle and read several books at once.

Here’s a glance at what’s going into my head.

Harry Potter

After the death of Alan Rickman the hubs and I decided to reread this series which I must say is awesome since it’s been quite awhile. We are reading it out loud to one another which is kind of cool! Except his voice makes me fall asleep-poor guy. This one is like visiting an old friend.

The School For Good and Evil

You’ll find me reading a ton of children’s literature due to the Kindergarten teacher in me. This one has such a cool concept. Two children are taken every four years from a town in the village, one good, one evil and dropped off in another land never to return again-except in fairy tales. This year the two that were taken to good and evil school but dropped off at the wrong school-or were they???? It’s good! And not the same old same old-you can definitively read to your 2nd graders and up.

The New American Bible

I made a commitment and promise that I would read this-all of this and this is the year! I ordered a new Catholic Bible so I could underline and fold and make it my own.

On Deck-which means what I have lined up….

The Search for Significance

This was a recommendation from a speaker at my moms group IBloom about self worth and accomplishments based on God as opposed to others.

Nutella Strawberry French Toast

January 22, 2016 By Callie Leave a Comment

I’m a sucker…for Pinterest or Facebook or Instagram try me ideas. You know the ones-you see the pin, the post, the picture and well you think I can do that I must do that. I literally have like 100 boards on Pinterest of things I must do. Enter the nutella craze.

Do you love nutella? At Walt Disney World apparently at the Sleepy Hollow quick serve the have waffles with nutella and strawberries!!! Definitely on my Disney bucket list. I’m guessing these are similar…and THEY ARE GOOD.

Ingredients:

Sliced Bread-I would say 3 pieces per person

Strawberries sliced-roughly 2 for 3 Toasts

Nutella

2 Large Eggs

Powdered Sugar

These will be made in a skillet so no preheating. Cut the crusts off your bread.

IMG_4116

Take each slice of decrusted bread and flatten with a rolling pin or a drinking glass.

IMG_4117

Cut up your strawberries into small slices or dice if you’d like.

IMG_4115

Spread nutella over each piece of bread.

IMG_4119

Add a small layer of strawberries on top of your nutella spread.

IMG_4121

Spray your skillet with cooking spray and heat. Crack your eggs into a bowl and whisk. Roll your bread slices sushi style into a roll. Dip into the egg wash and put immediately into the skillet.

IMG_4122

I also put the opening of the bread directly onto the skillet to seal the bread. Flip twice until toasted and browned-roughly 2-3 minutes and garnish with powdered sugar.

IMG_4123

Pretty easy and oh so yummy!

We had them for dinner because I believe firmly in breakfast for dinner.

Now if I can only find the time to make that nutella tree thingy!

How Kon Marie killed my Christmas-almost

January 18, 2016 By Callie Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you but like a bazillion other people I have hopped on the Kon Marie tidying band wagon. Not fully-not to the crazy extent. But I must say it-the book did hold a lot of value for me and did make me rethink about stuff in a new way.

In the past I would shop and just happen upon what I deemed as ultra cool stuff and I would buy it. Well…because it was ultra cool and I needed it. So my house got filled to the brim with ultra cool things oh and let’s talk about hobbies….I live for accessories. I got my cricut, and the vinyl, and the cartridges, and the storage for my cartridges, and the paper, and the tools….and it goes on and on…I like a complete set.

Not to mention that shopping just takes your mind off of things. Especially during my infertility battle years. If I was shopping I wasn’t thinking about the baby I wasn’t having and didn’t have.

So if you’ve read Kon Marie you can totally understand how this book was good for me.

Now let’s get to Christmas….once you have KM’d your house and you begin to look at things, stuff as joy sparking and useful then Christmas gets hard.

Someone was nice #santacame

Someone was nice #santacame

Did anyone else have this problem?

It was Christmas list time and I had nothing-nothing to write down….I asked friends what they were asking for…I went to my fellow bloggy friends lists for help-oh and they have great ideas but it just seemed like stuff…stuff I didn’t need. And it got me thinking…..

This KM thing isn’t all awesome-it has it’s pitfalls. Christmas sparks joy for me,opening gifts sparks joy for me. I just had to think of things differently. I also have friends who push KMing onto spouses and children. I’m totally against this. I spoke to him about it and gave him the jist of it and he cleaned out some things. I wanted him to clean out more but frankly he lives here too-it’s his stuff…and it sparks joy for him.

With a tree that big you can't even see the presents!

I want Row to have fun at Christmas. I want her to get loads of gifts-that sparks joy for her and I. I have come to realize that having a house full of toys and stuff to clean is a blessing and something I have always dreamed of.

I am also fully and I mean fully against trashing things just because they don’t spark joy anymore.I bought those things, I spent money. I always FB garage sale things before they go to donation, or I find people who might be able to use them.

I love KM. I do….and I have gained so much… but she almost ruined Christmas ya’ll.

I hope you’ve recovered from Christmas!

I have included an affiliate link in case you’d like to snag the book!
