Saint Patrick’s Day Sensory Bag

When Irish eyes are smiling….we make sensory bags with gold glitter!

I love what a sensory bag does for littles-the discovery, the sensation, the fun!

I love what a sensory bag does for a Mama-ten to twenty minutes of entertainment, a chance to talk about senses and colors and oh so much more, the inexpensiveness of it and oh yes it takes like three minutes to make.

Supplies-

Gallon Ziploc bag-the real deal so it won’t break

duct tape if you don’t trust your little from ripping the top open-I’m eying you boy moms.

hair gel

green food coloring

glitter-gold

a small St. Paddy’s day trinket-we used gold coins.

All of this can be found at your local Dollar Store as mentioned in my previous post.

Add supplies one by one in the bag. I did not mix anything up because I wanted Row to do that once the bag was closed. I simply dumped everything in and sealed.

And let them go! I loved the look on her face as the clear gel turned completely green. We talked about colors, shapes, and the sense of touch. A great extension for older kiddos-btw they love this stuff too. List words that start with “G”, describe attributes of the sensory bag.

Easy, fun, and lasts!!!!!

Are you doing any fun activities for St. Patrick’s Day? I used to make rainbow layer cakes in college-that was always cool!

Teacher Book Picks-St. Patrick’s Day Edition

February 17, 2015 By Callie Leave a Comment

So Valentine’s Day is over and as we take down all the red and white and pink let’s throw up some green with gold glitter!

I’d love to start a new series of posts on teacher book picks. As a parent I’m always looking for fun and appropriate books for Row to read and as a teacher I was always looking for books that matched teaching objectives. I have collected-wait for it, wait for it…..a little over 3,000 children’s book since becoming a teacher and yes we still have all of them. Most are in the attic but a bunch are in the house too.

Let’s start with some fun St.Patrick’s Day books. I will include links as well. I find that Amazon generally has the best deals but I have gotten many books from resale shops as well.

The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day

This is a super cute series of books based on The Night Before Christmas poem. You can find a similar book for tons of holidays and I adore them!

gail

The Gail Gibbons books are most suitable for children who are in Kindergarten and up or for those littles who love to research. Gibbons has a knack for writing non-fiction books in a kid friendly way with great illustrations. Honestly all of her books are super interesting.

touch

Perfect for those toddlers! Touch and feel board books are perfect for Row. She loves the sensory part. I love the hard to rip board part and I can’t stress this enough books with few words are so important for toddler aged children. Sometimes we overwhelm children with too much too fast. This is a great way for children to explore “reading” and become confident with book knowledge.

clover

I love a sing along book! This book follows the widely know I Know an Old Lady song. You can also find many variations of this book. Books that feature songs are fun ways to introduce predictable texts to children. Oh and it’s so cute!

I hope this gives you a few more books for your at home library. Do you have nay books you love? I would love to know!!! You know I need more books!
