Homemade Baby Food

This parenting thing is crazy. First the baby comes home and cries and then the next thing you know you’re done breastfeeding and onto solid foods. Solid foods and what to feed and when to feed and all that jazz can sometimes be confusing. There’s one thing I’ve learned there’s no one who knows what is best for you and your child but you and your child. It took us five years to get Rowan. Four miscarriages, years of infertility treatments and an IVF and happily she was here. I thought my years as a Kindergarten teacher and just in general being around children had prepared me….I was SOOOOO wrong. Okay so baby food. I wanted to try the whole homemade organic route. I went to whole foods grabbed some stuff and was off. But honestly I wanted this to be easy. I didn’t want to spend hours steaming and peeling and freezing so I found my salvation! Baby Brezza! Baby Brezza I bought it with a coupon at Babies R Us and it was cheaper than on Amazon. This thing steams and blends in one step! Perfect for me. If you’re good with steaming and using a regular blender that’ll work too. The only down side of the machine is it’s small so you’re making limited quantities. We started with apples but these pictures are for Rowan’s potatoes. Peel and cut into semi small pieces….Easter and Bluebonnets 091

Make sure you fill the water tank with water before placing the uncooked food in the Brezza, because the pitcher is also the water measuring cup.Easter and Bluebonnets 092 Set for your desired steaming time and wait. The machine steams and when finished automatically blends the food. Be still my heart. Easter and Bluebonnets 094I then simply put the puree into ice cube trays and voila done!!! And it’s so inexpensive. I feed Rowan 2-3 cubes thawed per meal right now which is basically two jars of food. The average cost of making the food is 12 cents a serving. To buy organic baby food even while couponing is roughly 79 cents. Crazy! It has really worked for us. I also bring the jars out when we’re out for meals. I haven’t started jazzing up her purees yet but would love to find out new recipes if you have some!!!
