Have you ever heard of Nelson’s Water Garden’s in Katy, TX? It’s a plant persons dream. When I was growing up my Nana was obsessed with plants. She always had snapdragons every year-they really do look like dragons too! My Aunt Donna and my Nana lived together for many years and I spent lots of time especially in the summer with them. I’ve never met anyone who loved plants and trees and animals more than my Aunt Donna. I remember going to the Lily Pond Place when I was little. They had these giant lily pads you could sit on and I mean giant and these things were real too! Sadly that place went out of business many years ago but…the Nelson family had worked there for years. This gave the Nelsons their opportunity to open up an amazing water gardens store here in Katy-but it’s so much more.
Nelson’s is a family owned and operated nursery that specializes in unique plants but also ponds and Koi. Every time we go they’ve created something new. Nelson’s has amazing ponds and walkways. They’re not just a business though, they run free workshops that teach everything from container gardening-I killed our tomatoes-to how to build your own pond. They have fish, tons of fish! You can also feed the Koi-which is really cool. Some of them are very old with whiskers.
We were lucky enough to go to their recent Friends and Family event. It was great. They had tons of supplies when we walked in for fairy gardens-did I mention my mom and Row have a fairy garden? During the event they had live music, hotdogs, pizza, and drinks. We made s’mores in a pizza oven! Row ran and ran and ran. Mr. Nelson came over and spoke to us about the Koi. He came back several minutes later with quarters for Row to feed the Koi-she loved it.
The best part about Nelson’s Water Gardens is that while it’s a business it’s a nice place just to go and walk around. Feed the Koi. Listen to one of their free workshops. The next Family Event is in October! We can’t wait to go!! I can’t wait for you to go and let me know what you loved!
