The Houston Fire Museum

July 22, 2017 By Callie Leave a Comment

Houston,TX

We love a great adventure and have been meaning to look some around our own neck of the woods. One of our friends posted on social media about visiting the local Fire Museum which got me thinking…..We spend so much time looking for adventures in other place why not look close by!

The Houston Fire Museum is located in downtown Houston and has parking available during the weekdays from 10-4 right in front of the converted Station 7.

The museum is small and lovely and they have truly tried to preserve the building and history which of course this history geek loves. Fees are $5 for adults and $2 for kiddos. We started off by seeing antique fire engines.

We were able to go upstairs and see the sleeping area, original slide pole, bathroom and shower area-which was actually really cool!

The dispatchers room.

They even had an amazing little kids area where you can dress up like a firefighter, drive a fire engine and push all the buttons, slide down the pole, and connect hoses.

We especially loved seeing all the fire stations in Houston-some of which were just simply converted houses when they opened. Oh and we got to see my Great Grandfather’s station 9-he was the fire chief!

The Houston Fire Museum is a quick and inexpensive lovely place! Take a day and go an visit and have lunch downtown!

Downtown Breckenridge

Breckenridge,CO

Fifty Nifty United States-our checklist goes on as we attempt to accomplish our family goal of all fifty states before Row goes to college.I’ve been watching those airfare deals and pinning on my Pinterest boards so that when a deal pops up we know where to go.

This summer we checked off Colorado. I posted a recap post previously but wanted to write posts about all the special events and places we went. Posts from fellow bloggers have been instrumental in helping me have fun things to choose from on each trip and I’m happy to spread that along.

We were fortunate enough that hubs best friends have a vacation home in Breckenridge,CO. We booked an amazing deal to Denver and then made the trip up, up, up to Breckenridge. We spent one day walking around and exploring the scenic downtown area in Breckenridge which is one of the many family fun things to do in the area during the summer months-make sure you have a light jacket though.

The downtown area is scenic and quaint and loaded up wit adorable and cutesy one of a kind stores. Parking is rough but there’s also a town square area where you can park and walk a tiny ways down to all the action.

Cute outdoor spaces to sit and play.Oh and very dog friendly.

Check out the cookie shop we stopped at. We got whoopie pies.

Tons of mom and pop restaurants that are excellent.

There’s a stream that runs adjacent to the downtown area and you can go and feed the fish so bring some quarters.

Downtown Breckenridge also runs family fun art exhibits in the center of Downtown every Friday night in the summer.

Oh and did I mention-walking just for the views was enough for me. Fun, free and gorgeous.

The Downtown Aquarium-Houston Happenings

June 10, 2015 By Callie Leave a Comment

Aquarium…Aquarium…I was singing Aquarius but using aquarium……

This week we decided to beat the heat and meet some of our gal pals Downtown for an Aquarium visit!

The aquarium was easy to get to and easy to park at! That’s a big deal in my willing to go downtown list. Surprisingly the aquarium was not at all crowded.

Row loved all the fish in each fish tank room oh and especially the starfish.

They had snakes-which we quickly strollered through asap. Super cool colored dart frogs. Oh and more fish!

We took a moment to take a Mamma and me selfie.

We saw white tigers too! The tigers were beautiful. We lined our strollers up next to the window and the tiger walked back and forth licking his lips-he wanted to eat our little nuggets! Row was having none of that and proceeded to scream and back up. I would say that’s a healthy fear.

We finished inside by seeing the stingrays. Row was apparently in the splash zone and got a full body splash as we were about to leave.

We finished the fun by riding on the ferris wheel!

She looks thrilled right?

We had a great time and this summer they’re running a buy one get one free deal on Tuesday! You can find information here.
