Encouraging Young Writers

September 17, 2015 By Callie 6 Comments

Did you know that children, young children can be set on the path of loving to write? So many of us struggled through school loathing writing. As a former Kindergarten teacher I was always looking for tricks and tools to help encourage children to love to write.

The quickest and easiest way to engage writing in children of all ages is to offer them a variety of options to write with. It really is that simple. I really want Row to have a love for writing. Toddlers can be encouraged to write through drawing. That’s right because we know that the purpose of writing is to communicate an idea and drawing can in fact do that even for the youngest of children.

I am always on the lookout for super cool writing tools. Ok so I have been pretty much obsessed with pens, pencils, erasers and pens since I was in utero. I was really disappointed when I would go shopping and just couldn’t find anything cool. Something I know Row would love and want to use. Maybe I could use it too-just saying. I stumbled upon the company International Arrivals and was AMAZED by what they had to offer!

First up the left and right crayons-now these are cool. Easy to grip and smooth to color. Row loved these especially since she shows left handed tendencies. The colors allowed her to grip and use easily. Oh and the lollipop pen! It smells like orange when you write and so does the poof. How adorable.

Oh and yes that COLOR IN Book is from International Arrivals too. The paper is so much nicer and thicker than a regular coloring book and it’s bound on a spiral. This book is every 8 year old girls dream. Row uses it as a book as well, flipping through pages and pointing to animals. We had to take it to lunch yesterday.

Have an older child? A college kid? Check out this cool monster highlighters….and they are scented.

I told you I had a thing for erasers…..

International arrivals has tons of gel pens to match any kiddos love-boys and girls. I love that they carry such a variety of writing utensils so kids of every shape and size will love their products. Put these out at your writing table and watch the kids flock!

International arrivals carry so many different items and all in one place. I have even been eyeing some things for stocking stuffers oh and our next door neighbors birthday. What 10 year old wouldn’t love this……

Check out that puffy!

Check out that puffy!

That’s right those are puffy pens-what does that mean exactly? It means you write, let dry, and then come back with a blow dryer and bam-puffs right up. I am sad-not sad-to say these babies are mine!!!!

What’s that you say? You need some of these goodies in your life right now…I know. Well the wonderful people over at International Arrivals are offering a $50 gift card to one reader so you can go crazy buying cool things from their site.

Warning you may spend more….What do you love to write with?

This is a sponsored post. I received items to review however, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Weekend Wrap Up

March 30, 2015 By Callie Leave a Comment

Our weekend started off with a bang on Friday! Probably more Thursday when someone said hey I’ll see you tomorrow and I was all like whhhhattt? Oh that’s right I’m hosting a Toddler Easter Party.

I love a party! I dreamed of the day we would have a child an experience all the fun ness of childhood again and believe me when I say I don’t miss a moment. I decided to host our toddler friends Easter party at the house complete with an egg hunt. Each Mama dropped off 24 filled eggs to my house prior to the party. Does that sound like a lot?

What I adore about the group of women I call Mama friends is they are always ready for fun and they are always ready to help. The event was pot luck so I only had to worry about one dish, plates, and water. Stress less. I also am at a point with these gals that I don’t run around crazy cleaning. I mean I vacuumed and tidied but not much more.

Mamas sent messages about if they could bring their bunny costume for pictures-thanks Melissa-you were a trooper and amazing. Sadly Row refused a pic. One Mama-Amber asked if she could bring a backdrop for pictures. Melissa brought her niece and nephew to help hide eggs. Jennifer brought treats for each kiddo and Row gave each friend a basket for egg hunting. We played outside and had so much food there wasn’t room on my counters!

The egg hunt came and Row got it this year! She had a blast finding eggs. Also an Easter miracle happened we successfully got 10 two year olds and 1 six month old to sit in a line and take a group photo!!! A MIRACLE!

Opening her stash! I love a good toddler party!

I also had the pleasure of celebrating this guy-my best friend, my boyfriend, my partner in crime, and the one I cannot live without. We celebrated the whole week complete with a misspelled birthday cake-he wanted a store bought one like he had when he was little. A trip to the park and a first time running on hills moment.

Weekend Wrap Up

March 2, 2015 By Callie 2 Comments

How was your weekend???? It’s back to my favorite Monday!

Our weekend was wet, cold and more wet. I mean shouldn’t it be warming soon. Notice that ended with a period not a question mark. I just bought Row like three new pairs of ruffle shorties!

Our Friday started off with a bang when Row’s speech class got canceled. Row has a mild speech delay. Now mind you that doesn’t stop her from non stop talking. I mean with a punch line and all. This week she began repeating episodes of Daniel Tiger with sound effects and girlfriend was actually on point. So anyways since speech got cancelled we ran errands. Ran into friends. Ate a little chickfila.

Ya know a stellar day.

Saturday it was freezing but nothing was going to stop us from going to our sweet friend Zoe’s birthday! Her mama pulled out the stops with her Sesame Street theme, complete with motorized Dorothy fish in a bowl which Row loved. How cute are these Abby Wands?

She had a bouncy house which was brilliant so we stationed adults in the corners and shoved our little toddlers in! She had a blast!

We ended our night like this-he seriously didn’t even know it was there!

He doesn't even know it's there bahahahaha!

Our Matilda Jane show is still going strong-such precious new things this time around and an amazing white lace mama dress. You can see instructions for ordering and info. here! Happy shopping-yes I bought ten things…I have a sickness.
