Easy Valentine’s for Toddlers

January 13, 2016 By Callie 3 Comments

I can’t believe it’s right around the corner. our Christmas decorations are down with the exception of the small silver tree which is now a Valentine’s tree-boo ya-he’s not thrilled.

Time to start thinking about getting fun things together for your Valentine parties. Our play group and music class tends to shy away from candy for the littles. I personally don’t mind candy I mean it’s Valentine’s Day. I do however, try to be mindful of others and pick fun things.

Two quick and easy Valentine’s we have given and have been a big hit are these easy and inexpensive crayon sets. Check the school supply section and snag them now before they sell out. For some reason the smaller packs always sell out quickly.

It also gave mean excuse to use washi and as you can see here I need excuses!

Oh another hit was the mini play dough-in Valentine’s colors of course!

How easy is that? Let’s get this Valentine thing done! Check!

Valentine’s Day Slime

February 5, 2015 By Callie Leave a Comment

Hearts and flowers and slime oh my! Here’s a toddler friendly gushy gooey sensory activity to keep those little ones busy during drizzly, snowy dinner time making days.

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup of white glue-elmer’s school glue works just fine-one whole small bottle will do it)

1/2 Cup of water

1/2 Cup of liquid starch-this can be found at grocery stores

Mix the water and glue in a large mixing bowl. After the glue is diluted this is the time to add any food coloring, foam tidbits, confetti, glitter etc.

Now the cool part. Slowly ass the starch while consistently mixing. It will form a blob-like a blob rising from the water.

Mix completely-add all of the starch. Knead a bit and then lay on a plate to dry just a bit. I dried for about an hour.

Have fun! Great idea for valentine’s too-just cut into smaller pieces.

Row well she was not so sure….but I was!

Valentine’s Day Banner

January 9, 2015 By Callie Leave a Comment

This past week my beautiful, sparkling, full of joy Christmas decorations came down. I decided that the feeling of room emptiness had to stop and so I have graciously moved onto Valentine’s Day. Too soon? I shutter to think.

I scoured Pinterest and found this cute banner-seemed simple enough. I decided to tweak it and make it my own. I have to admit-this was way easier than I thought. Totally doable during nap. I would say 20 minutes top!

I grabbed some red and white tissue paper that I had scored in the after Christmas sale. I layed them out, and originally put the smaller sheets on top but then realized the smaller sheets were polka dots and I wanted the polka dots to show more. I folded them in half along the creases that already existed.

If you’re worried since we are going to break the sewing machine out-that’s right-sewing on paper is my new thing. You can add some straight pins to hold the two sheets in place. I did not, because I like to live on the wild side. I also like that this project doesn’t have to be perfect.

Now overlap the two separate sheets you have.

Now start sewing. I left about an inch of inseam. It’s also important that you guide the paper out of the back of the machine since it doesn’t bend and give the way fabric does. It’s also a good chunk of paper so go slow.

Now lay it out flat and cut fringe-just below the thread on each sheet.

Let's get Valentines started!

And now-you’re done! I punched hole in the end and tied string to attach it to our mantle. Now I’m thinking a burlap pennant??? Maybe????

Are you feeling the love? More love to come! Ohhhh and you’re welcome to follow me on instagram @calliecakes1. I always post pictures there first!
