Creating Gallery Walls

January 16, 2015 By Callie Leave a Comment

I spoke earlier about us moving back into our house after I lived in Massachusetts. We had gotten rid of every non essential piece of furniture. I told myself upon moving back in I would completely make it my own-every inch. I have found in my old uhem age I love a more contemporary style. I scoured pinterest pinning fun home projects. The very first thing I decided to do was make an entry gallery wall.

I have been asked way too many times where I get my frames to even mention. It’s hard to find the things you have imagined in your mind and make them come to home decorating life sometimes. I found this amazing small business called Cut It Out Frames. The awesome thing is there are so many sizes and varieties. They all come in natural wood and then I simply spray painted them to fit my needs. They can become pricy once you start adding so I chose one to start with and then added as my budget allowed. I thought the fact that they didn’t have glass would bother me but I actually love it. The owner makes everything once you order himself and the customer service is amazing!!!!

I also have to give a shout out to the photographers because you know I didn’t take those pictures. My bestie Marc Kelly took our wedding picture. He’s an amazing photographer based out of LA and since he was my man of honor he actually took the pictures as our wedding gift!

Our local photographer is the sweet, bubbly, amazingly patient and creative Melissa who owns Snapped with Love Photography. This girl has been dealing with my baby sass since day 1. I mean she changed my newborn Row’s diaper when I was hobbled over from my c-section without blinking. She deals with toddlers who won’t do ANYTHING and makes it look amazing. She’s local in the Houston area but travels and does sessions in New Orleans from time to time as well….I mean she needs to knock on Brad and Angelina’s door at least twice a year.

This entry way is definitely one of my favorite things! I love changing the pictures out as we take new ones-I save all the old ones behind the picture showing. I also love keeping some of the oldies. I love that I can make it my own and grow it as needed which is why I’m participating in Momfessional’s Friday Favorites!

I hope you have an amazing weekend-with some sun-right!!!!

Friday Favorites

November 14, 2014 By Callie Leave a Comment

It’s Friday-okay so I’m posting Thursday night but it’s Friday! Time for some favorites!!!! I’m joining Momfessionals and her Friday favorite party!

This week has been an amazing ride. Our super fun Aunty Mindy came into town and Row was super psyched to spend time with her-as were we all. She brought us an amazing Mickey waffle maker- DISNEY MICKEY MOUSE NON STICK ELECTRIC WAFFLE MAKER RED AND BLACK which is completely necessary and will be featured next week. Now I totally love Disney. I have been to Disney World 13 times and our next visit is being planned for October 2015 baby! That being said I don’t have a ton of Disney stuff but a waffle maker that makes Mickey heads we now have!!!!

We had our Toddler Thanksgiving party-definitely a favorite- which is really a time for mommies to party and toddlers to run around screaming and owning the place. Everyone brought a different Thanksgiving dish-it was amazing! We brought mini pumpkin pies . Row well she layed on the ground in her turkey outfit and did laps with all her toddler friends. Oh and she actually ate! Row is a tiny one and the newest thing is not eating-sigh. Two months ago she ate everything. Now one day she’ll eat it the next day she won’t-I know I’m not the only one going through this! But she ate!!! Two pieces of chicken and a piece of pumpkin bread she ninja stole off another mama’s plate-toddlers!

While at the party we made plans to go to the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show!!! I’m so excited! Girl’s Night! It’s going to be a favorite!

The same day I was lucky enough to meet one of our brand new baby friends-just born and bring a freezer meal-recipe later!

My most favorite thing about Row’s birthday was the bake sale stand that hubs made! It’s toddler sized and oh so cute. He built and I painted. Super cute right?! We used it as a photo prop at the party and we will use again for her Spring pictures!

Oh and one last favorite-a favorite icing tip. I used to fill my piping bags by holding them which is how they taught us in cake class. However, the icing would get all over. I started putting the piping bag in a glass and folding it over at the top. It’s amazing! I can fill it to the top easily and then shale down-no mess!

What are your favorite things? Happy Friday!

What is Row wearing? A custom made turkey dress I snagged in Canton, Matilda Jane Yellow and White puffer shirt, Matilda Jane Sun Kissed Tights and baby Uggs. Second picture-Matilda Jane Walden Wishes Top

Open Faced Cakes and Cake Bunting How To’s

November 8, 2014 By Callie Leave a Comment

Simple. I use to long to make fondant cakes like the cake boss until I realized that he had an entire staff who each did a different part of the cake. Now it’s simple. I love a birthday cake with homemade butter cream and piping or simple roses and swirls. That’s more my style anyways.

Row’s 2nd birthday cake was what I like to call an open faced cake. Meaning there was only icing in between layers and on the top. I loved how it came out. It was simple and stress free and I also felt like it wasn’t so overloaded with icing like it would have been if I had iced all of it.

To make this cake simply use any cake recipe or box cake. You shouldn’t feel bad about using a box cake by the way…..do you know how many cake decorators use them? I was shocked. Many professionals do, so don’t feel bad about it. I do both depending on time. In fact I actually have some batches pre made. You may have seen them in my pantry entry here.

Stack a layer ice, stack a layer ice….you can find my butter cream recipe here. Make the top pretty and bam it’s done!

I also made a bunting as a cake topper out of washi tape, baker’s twine, and skewers. Simply tie the ends, add washi and cut to form pennants. How easy was that?! Yes I had a lot of washi to choose from. It gave me an excuse to use it. I swear I buy some every week! Oh which reminds me Target had large size washi in their Christmas wrapping section-who bought it? Me!!!!

I also wanted to share with you one of my favorite things-other than washi. These are called Bake Even Strips.-here’s a link Wilton 415-0795 2-Piece Bake Even Strip SetI learned about them while taking cake decorating classes-oh yes I did! These are awesome. You wet them and then wrap them around the top of the cake pan. They work on smaller circles, ovals, and square pans. There’s a pin to secure them. You pop your pan full of batter in the oven and these babies help them rise evenly so you don’t have to mangle them and cut them to make them even later! I’ll be adding this to Momfessional Friday Favorites list!

Our week ended with me throwing out my back-so fun. A trip to the brand new Sam’s literally five minutes down the road. Row had a blast because since it’s opening they have samples galore! Looking forward to a cousin birthday tomorrow and an Aunty visit this week….oh and a Toddler Thanksgiving too! What are ya’ll doing to get in the Thanksgiving spirit?
